how we met: 2.15.04

Matt and I met on February 15, 2004, at a fine local establishment called Michael's, often referred to as "The Wrinkle Ranch" due to the age of its clientele. Matt and I were the only the only people there under the age of 25, and were hanging out with our respective older friends. I was on crutches after yet another round of knee surgery and was out with a friend who loved to dance -- meaning I spent most of the night sitting on a bar stool alone. After a few hours, I saw an acquaintance of mine across the bar and waved. He came over and to my amazement was accompanied by a guy about my age! Matt introduced himself then stood awkwardly next to me without saying a word for a good 30-45 minutes. I was on crutches and couldn't escape from his creepiness, but thankfully he got over his nerves and struck up a conversation. We've been together ever since (though he still creeps me out from time to time).

the proposal! 8.28.08

Matt and I were on vacation in the Outer Banks, sharing a cottage with my parents for a week.   He spent a lot of his time fishing since sadly I spent a lot of my time on conference calls for work (yes I am a loser!).  I was really excited when we planned a day away from work and fishing and hung out together.  We took out jetskis and drove around the bay for a long time and had a blast.  My parents had my reservations at a nice restaurant later that night, and I wanted to get home to take a shower and clean up for dinner.  So I was a little annoyed when, on the way home from jet skiing, Matt stopped at his favorite fishing spot (a pier that went out into the sound with a gazebo at the end).  He stopped the car and of course I was like "what are we doing here?  We have dinner soon!"  He said, "I just have to check on something.  Are you coming?"  I said, "Why would I??"  LOL definitely made him work for it but I was gross and covered in seaweed and salt water and just wanted a shower.  So I grudgingly got out of the truck and followed him up the pier.  He talked to a few people in the gazebo then we finally turned to head back to the car, and I realized after walking a bit that he wasn't next to me.  I turned around to see what was taking him so long and he was down on one knee with the ring :)  It was completely unexpected and the happiest moment of my life!  We got back to the cottage and my parents already knew he was going to ask me and we got to go out for a nice celebratory dinner!  A perfect day!
